Why Manila's a Thriller
'Off Shoring' needn't mean 'offputting' when it comes to strategising your business.
Merlin is leading a project to bring the Helpdesk Institute (HDI) to the Philippines. The first stage in this project was to hold an HDI Service Desk Manager course in Manila. Although there are companies in Manila who have sent their employees overseas for HDI training, this is the first time such a course has taken place in the Philippines. The response to the course was extremely good. It was attended by IT and Service Desk managers from a number of international organisations and local companies.
HDI Europe’s Head of Education and Learning, Jo Johns, flew to the Philippines to facilitate the course. The content and delivery of the material was superb. All the participants got involved and really enjoyed the course.

“This is the first ever course offered by HDI here in the Philippines. Due to some heavy workload, i thought i needed to cancel the reservation made by my company, luckily, the big boss allowed me to still join (thanks to blackberry since i can still be virtually connected to the office daily operation).

The entire course covered not only Service Desk Management, it also included an overview about Project Management, Leadership and Management, Stress Management (which i think helped me a great deal) and a lot of surprising subjects that you normally see as a separate course in other training centers.
All in all, this is a great course and i highly recommend attending succeeding sessions to equip your leaders and managers in terms of managing their area of responsibility efficiently. As i always say, trainings such as this should not be treated as an expense but rather an investment.”

Everyone enjoyed each others company and the opportunity to talk to people in the same industry with the same challenges and difficulties. Sometimes it can feel like you are the only one who is has these experiences until you talk to people in other companies in similar positions. That’s one of the best things about networking with your peers.

The first stage of the project was a great success and plans are in place for on going HDI Helpdesk Analyst training and create an HDI based membership organisation in the Philippines.
